Set in Surfside, Miami, SK Residence is a 2023 luxury waterfront home interior renovation by Nar Design Studio. Designed by Nicholas Gennari and Roberto Racy for a client in the high-tech sector, the 6,072-square-foot residence was conceived as a private retreat where interior architecture, biophilic design, and spa-inspired living converge in a refined South Florida setting. Rather than treating luxury as visual excess, the project defines it through atmosphere, material precision, and a deeper connection to nature. In Miami’s waterfront neighborhoods, interior design must do more than appear polished. It must respond to expansive glazing, intense natural light, coastal views, and the desire for calm, private indoor-outdoor living. SK Residence approaches that condition through sculptural form, controlled illumination, tactile materials, and a stronger connection to nature, an approach that reflects the work of Nar Design Studio across its luxury residential interior projects in Miami and South Florida.
The spatial narrative begins at the threshold. A dramatic double-height foyer capped by a glass ceiling draws daylight deep into the entry sequence, while the transition into the great room is marked by a sculpted parametric ceiling whose flowing geometry evokes the movement of water and reinforces the sensation of entering a more protected, cave-like interior. A curved glass bench, infinity-mirror artwork, sculptural lounge pieces, and a full-height illuminated library wall create a deliberate contrast between transparency and enclosure, shaping an arrival that feels both immersive and carefully composed. Reflecting the owner’s passion for books, the custom shelving integrates warm backlighting that animates the space in the evening with a soft glow reminiscent of sunset light filtering through a window. This introduction establishes the project’s central theme: a contemporary expression of luxury where refined craftsmanship is balanced with the calm and sensory richness of nature.
At the center of the residence, the dining room translates geological reference into contemporary interior language. Inspired by cenote caves, the space is anchored by a custom natural-stone wall whose pieces are described in external coverage as weighing roughly 800 kilograms each. That raw tectonic presence is set against the polish of a Sahara Noir marble dining table, forest-green velvet seating, and a metallic wine display, producing a composition that moves between mineral roughness and urban refinement. The result is not simply a dramatic room, but a highly tactile interior in which material contrast becomes the primary design device.
The family room softens the atmosphere without losing rigor. A live moss wall strengthens the visual relationship to the tropical exterior and contributes acoustic softness, while the white bouclé sofa, root coffee table, and sand-toned rugs keep the room grounded in a calmer material register. A custom media unit with a sliding panel was developed to integrate a 140-inch projection screen without sacrificing window openings, allowing the room to shift between lounge, screening space, and informal gathering area while preserving the architectural flow.
The color palette draws inspiration from earth, sand, and green tones associated with restorative landscapes like the savanna, reinforcing the project’s biophilic and wellness-driven approach. Browns, soft beiges, and deep greens, foster tranquility and harmony while pops of warm gold and bronze emulate the sun’s gentle touch. This carefully chosen scheme bridges the gap between modernity and nature, complementing biomimetic design elements throughout the home.
What elevates SK Residence beyond a poetic “nature-inspired” interior is the way those gestures align with a broader healthy-building logic. In Nar Design Studio’s Venice Biennale research, the studio presents projects such as SK Residence as examples of how WELL, LEED, and biophilic design can inform the built environment through daylight, indoor vegetation, organic materials, acoustics, thermal comfort, and attention to emotional well-being. IWBI describes WELL as an evidence-based framework concerned with factors such as light, sound, materials, thermal comfort, and mind. Read through that lens, SK Residence operates as a calibrated sensory environment in which spatial refuge, controlled light, tactile materiality, and connection to nature are treated as design instruments rather than decoration. This wellness-driven approach continues in our One Thousand Museum Miami project, where custom fabrication and holistic interiors shape a luxury condominium overlooking Biscayne Bay.
In the primary suite, the language becomes quieter and more restorative. Sand hues, stone cladding, softly illuminated woodwork, open shelving, and a low-profile upholstered bed create a room designed for decompression at the end of demanding workdays. Here, the project avoids spectacle and instead relies on proportion, ambient light, and textural contrast to produce a calm and private atmosphere consistent with the residence’s wider wellness agenda.
The project’s reception confirms that this balance between atmosphere, craftsmanship, and technical control resonates beyond the home itself. SK Residence has been recognized as a Winner in the German Design Award’s Interior Architecture category, won SBID’s Residential Fit Out Project of the Year, and received Florida Design Seaglass Awards for Editor’s Choice, Millwork, and Contemporary Dining Room. It has also been featured by Elle Decor Italia, Elle Decor Spain, Florida Design, Archilovers, Amazing Architecture, The Architectural Authority, Illustrarch, and Homedit.
