“An artistic escape in the sky inspired by music and Miami’s spirit”

project details

Perched on the 60th floor of the Brickell Flatiron, one of Miami’s most iconic high-rises, the JZ Apartment is a bold and immersive residential project designed by Nar Design Studio. With sweeping panoramic views of the Miami skyline as its backdrop, this 170-square-meter lower penthouse was conceived as a second home for a high-profile attorney whose life oscillates between the rigor of law and a deep personal connection to electronic music, contemporary art, and cultural expression.

From the outset, the brief challenged the design team to create more than a beautiful interior—it needed to reflect the client’s multifaceted identity. He envisioned a space that diverged from the polished seriousness of his primary residence and professional life, instead embracing something that felt unapologetically expressive, emotionally rich, and uniquely “Miami.” The inspiration was clear: a visual and spatial language rooted in rhythm, movement, and sensory experience—much like the electronic music festivals he passionately attends.

To bring this vision to life, Nar Design Studio stripped the apartment of its original finishes and transformed it into a clean, gallery-like canvas. White walls, new ceiling designs, and a layered lighting scheme established a minimalist foundation that allowed the rest of the design to unfold with clarity and purpose. The spatial strategy emphasized openness and negative space, allowing the city views to become a living part of the interior while giving visual breathing room to the curated furniture and art pieces.

At the heart of the design is a bold palette inspired by both Miami’s tropical vibrancy and the intensity of nightlife culture. Saturated colors like teal, fuchsia, and neon yellow punctuate the otherwise neutral space through carefully placed accents, furniture, and artwork. These elements evoke the rhythm and energy of music, with iridescent glass surfaces and reflective finishes shifting in tone depending on lighting and movement, much like the beat-driven ambiance of a dance floor.

Furniture was selected with curatorial precision, combining iconic design with sculptural impact. The living room features standout pieces such as Mario Bellini’s Camaleonda sofa, the Togo by Michel Ducaroy, and the Grande Papilio by Naoto Fukasawa. Tables by Patricia Urquiola and Todd Bracher add elegance and artistic edge, while neon art and custom murals bring in layers of narrative and cultural references. Each piece was chosen not only for its form but for its ability to contribute to a larger sensorial experience.

Lighting was treated as both functional and emotional architecture. A combination of cove lighting, sculptural floor lamps, wall sconces, and pendants—many from Flos, Foscarini, and Kuzco Lighting—creates a flexible atmosphere that evolves throughout the day. The custom lighting strategy was designed to evoke intimacy and mood, shifting from gallery-bright during the day to warm, immersive tones at night, reflecting the rhythm of urban life and nightlife.

In the private areas, such as the bedrooms and bathrooms, the design adopts a softer, more serene approach while still maintaining the project’s overall bold language. Textured fabrics, layered materials, and custom wallcoverings from brands like Glamora and Arte add depth and warmth, creating spaces that are luxurious yet comforting.

Sustainability and longevity were considered throughout the project, with an emphasis on preserving existing architecture, using durable materials, and investing in timeless furniture pieces designed to last for decades.

Completed in 2025, the JZ Apartment stands as a testament to Nar Design Studio’s ability to translate personality into space. It is not just a home—it is a curated environment where art, design, sound, and light coalesce into a living, breathing narrative. It captures the spirit of Miami not through clichés, but through a layered, elevated expression of place, identity, and emotion—an architectural symphony composed to the beat of its owner’s life.
